The Probate Court has jurisdiction over a variety of proceedings including but not limited to the probate and administration of decedent's estate, wills and trusts, contests over and construction of wills and trusts, guardianship and conservator ships concerning adults and minors, name changes, adoptions, and related termination of parental rights cases.
The York County Registry of Probate houses and archives original records dating back to 1687, and processes and schedules probate and civil filings and proceedings in support of the Probate Court's operations in care of its elected judge. The York County Registry of Probate also serves as a certified passport application acceptance facility. Its staff consists of a full-time, elected Register of Probate, a full-time, appointed Deputy Register of Probate, and 4 full-time employees.
The mission of the York County Probate Court and Registry of Probate is to protect the rights of the people of York County; to serve them efficiently and effectively; and, to work cooperatively with all community resources, York County Commissioners and the York County Budget Committee in a fiscally responsible manner.
